Christ Church Youth Club launched during the summer holidays of 2019. We are a small group of about eight teenagers who meet during school holidays for fun, food and thoughtfulness. During October half term we made pitta pocket pizzas for lunch, went on a texting treasure hunt around Church Crookham [boys versus girls - girls won!] and then thought about our responsibilities as consumers. We looked at six different types of chocolate, chose our favourite starting with taste, and then looked at whether cost, fair trade, organic or sustainable labels would make a difference, ethical or otherwise, to our choices. We had to do a fair bit of research on the labelling to find out what they really meant and how much good the chocolate companies were really doing. It was quite eye-opening. Being a consumer with morals isn’t as easy as it looks and we went away with food for thought [and lots of chocolate!].

During February half term 2020 we went on our first outing and chose to go bowling at Farnborough bowl. As there was room for one more player, Revd Steve decided to join in too. It turns out that everyone who said they weren’t very good was right! At first. But after warming up everyone got better and managed to get good scores along the way. A couple of people managed strikes or spares which we were all impressed by. The overall winner was…. The vicar! His second strike towards the end of the game edged him ahead of Ben into a convincing lead which he maintained to the end.

Our next meeting was planned for Easter 2020 but sadly the pandemic has put us on hold for now. As soon as we can we will be meeting again.
